John Blake Construction puts innovative design at its core. We believe that by incorporating innovative design into every project, we bring fresh concepts that create unique value.

How is innovative design defined? Is it creating a new solution for an existing problem? Is it repurposing existing materials? Is it incorporating new function into an existing design? Is it based on beauty or passion, technology or simplicity?
 

Innovative design has no criteria or standards. As a concept, it’s meant to surprise us. Incorporating creative design blurs our expectations. It exposes the vulnerability of “drawing outside the lines” and encourages us to re-evaluate how we’ve been taught to look at elements in home construction and renovation. It reminds us that good design should make our living spaces not just functional, but unique expressions of ourselves.
 

So, while there are no set criteria, there are criteria we use in evaluating innovative design concepts. 

• First will the design be cohesive with the space? Meaning, will it work with existing elements yet create a statement for the space or provide a necessary function in a cohesive manner? 
• Second, does the design incorporate a new concept or demonstrate function in a new way? 
• Third, will the design withstand the test of time and allow for modifications as future living space requirements may dictate? 
• And lastly, does the design serve to improve function or invoke emotion in a manner that provides marketable value?”  
   

Whether it’s an aesthetic that hasn’t been seen before, a material that has been repurposed, or a new functionality for an existing element, incorporating innovative design is most powerful when it connects to our desire to make life easier and more beautiful. John Blake Construction continually seeks to explore the boundaries of where function meets imagination.
