John Blake has been in the construction industry for over 13 years designing and building custom living space creations. From outdoor kitchens to entire house renovations and new construction, John sees each project as an opportunity for artistic expression and innovative design.
Looking at a project from John’s perspective is a little like being the proverbial kid in a candy store. Where most people see brick and mortar, John sees a myriad of elements, textures, applications, and possibilities. John’s diverse experience enables him to combine his inherent gift of artistry with his technical construction knowledge to create truly innovative design. The kind of design that invokes excitement and invites the imagination to create living spaces that not only function but inspire.
With an artist’s eye, John delights in finding new purposes for existing elements. John’s workshop is filled with mundane and ordinary pieces most people would intentionally overlook. A large piece of driftwood, a former bookcase, and sections of ironwork lie scattered around his space ready to be transformed into unique custom fabricated pieces. Sentimental and historic materials are often incorporated into his designs in seamlessly cohesive construction alongside high-tech materials. It’s those unique touches that make John’s designs more than just functional. John’s designs inspire us with his whimsical and clever artistry.
John truly understands that design isn’t just about making a space function, it’s also about flow. At the inception of all projects, John gathers information about the owner’s requirements for a space and the desired end use. Having a wealth of expertise in assessing living space dynamics, John excels at providing guidance in the formation of design ideas and direction towards possibilities to maximize the space while minimizing unnecessary expense.
As a designer and contractor, John is motivated to continually seek new methods of accomplishing the same goals for the benefit of his clients. As a natural problem solver, he is often faced with challenges and most often opts for a creative solution, which results in a unique product. John enjoys working with owners to determine new approaches and techniques that work for their vision.
